Mark believes no matter how many laps he drives during his
career, something new is waiting around the next turn. That was never truer than last
Friday’s AAA Insurance 200 at the Dover International Raceway.
A hood pin came loose on his No. 21 Bush’s Baked Beans Ford F-150 and when it pealed up,
it acted like an air brake on an airplane. But quick repairs and Mark’s experience at
the one-mile racetrack helped him rally to a sixth-place finish.
Added with Stacy Compton’s second-place finish, Wood Brothers/JTG Racing celebrated its
best overall performance since the two racing companies joined forces before the 2006
season.
Mark started 12th. His No. 21 Ford F-150 stayed in the Top-10 all afternoon until the
problem on pit road. The hood flapped at high speed and finally bent back. The team pushed
it down and added a patch made of duct tape. Once the repairs were complete, Mark quickly
moved back through the field for his second straight Top-Six finish in the NASCAR Craftsman
Truck Series.
Mark is sharing the driving duties in the No. 21 Bush’s Baked Beans Ford with Kelly Bires.
Mark’s next race is at the Michigan International Speedway on June 16. Bires will drive the
truck next Friday night at the Texas Motor Speedway.
Mark has one of the best driving records in Dover International Speedway history. He has
one truck racing victory, as well as one win in the Busch Series and four in Nextel Cup.
