"Well, our weekend at
Darlington had some high points and
low points. The high point of the day was that our pit stops
were so much better. We finally got into the 14-second
range, which makes a huge difference. I think we gained
positions in the pits on nearly every stop.
The low point is that the car still didn't run as well as
it should have. We were really fast in the morning practice
on Saturday, and then not as good during happy hour. It
didn't help that qualifying was canceled due to fog. I
believe we could have qualified better than 25th, which
is where we had to start based on current owner's points.
If we could have started up front, I probably wouldn't
have lost a lap that we couldn't make up.
I'm looking forward to Bristol this weekend. I've always
liked racing there, even though a lot of drivers don't.
We've had a lot of success there, and as long as we qualify
good enough to get a pit stall on the front stretch, then
we should be in a position to compete for the win. We're
taking a brand new car that we think will be very good.
It has been such an odd season so far. All of the teams
you expect to do well have had problems, and the teams
you don't expect to see in the front are running up there.
We're slowly working our way up in the points, but at least
we are in good company. I've got my teammates Jeff, Matt
and Kurt, as well as Bobby Labonte, Tony Stewart and Dale
Jr. I hope we can turn things around at Bristol this
weekend and get another strong finish like we had in Las
Vegas.
Hang in there - I promise it will get better. The team and
I don't doubt for a second that we will be back in the
top-10 in points before too long".
