Late in the race Mark was staging a charge
but tangled with fellow Ford driver Jimmy Spencer in one of the
Glen's tight turns. Mark said the minor incident cost him precious
track position during a critical part of the race. "I was putting
on a charge and it stopped that charge and put me behind a bunch of
cars." Mark said. "It put me in a bad position. But that wasn't Mark's only
woe. "We missed the setup," he said. "We missed an opportunity
to have a little bit better track position. And those two things
together put us where we were, instead of doing better."

"It was just a day where we missed it just a tick in
the pits, and missed it a tick and missed it a little more than a
tick on the race track.

Martin's finish ended his streak of
top-five finishes at the Glen. Coming into this event he had
finished fifth or better in the previous 10 races at this road course.

Mark's 10-place finish cost in points
too. With Winston Cup points leader Dale Jarrett finishing fourth,
Mark lost ground in the standings. Mark has 17 top 10's this season.
