An ailing Mark Martin endured a
painful day and survived an accident in the first half of the race
to post a sixth-place finish, making him the only driver to score
eight top 10's in the nine Winston Cup races at New Hampshire.

"I lost two spots to fuel mileage
so I feel angry," said Martin, who was running third when he had
to pit his Ford for fuel on lap 290 of the 300-lap race.
|
|
"We raced hard, we did what we could.
The race team has really supported me in this deal. I wish we could
have gotton them more. I hate we lost a couple of spots to fuel at
the end, but we had a car that could almost contend and that's
something to be proud of."

Martin, who was driving with a broken
left wrist and left tibia plateau in his leg, and damaged ribs,
said everything was stacked against his Roush Racing team, especially
after he spun on lap 113.
|
|
"I wish we hadn't have gotton spun
out and I wish we hadn't have gotton caught that other time, but we
finally got up there," he said. The race team has always supported
me through this whole thing and I don't feel a whole lot of pain
right now. We'll be ready to race when get to Pocono(in two weeks)."

Martin is still third in the Winston Cup
point standings, but is only nine points behind his teammate Jeff
Burton, who was second to leader Dale Jarrett. Martin trails Jarrett
