My Mark Martin Blog

February 26, 2008

I am going to have to stop the blog temporarily.

January 11, 2008

I apologize for not keeping up with Mark's blog. I have to do it manually as the spammers continue to hammer this site with their shit everyday. Fortunately my web server deletes them and just leaves the true blog entries. I then have to put them here manually and sometimes because of my job it is difficult to keep up. I apologize to the folks that have sent a blog message that hasn't shown up on here. I will try to do better in 2008.

I didnt know if would be able to come out to our unit for a little while when you are here in Kansas City. I am a big fan of Nascar and you. It is nice to see you driving the 01 Army car. Thanks for all u have done for racing over the past many years. I'm 62 yrs yng. and I have watched ur career and hope to be around to see Matt race for many years!!!
Thank u in advance for ur kind consideration and assistance in this "FREE the 8" .

Mark has been my favorite driverr since starting to watch nascar in 1992. This year though has been a low. How can you drive for Army when the boys are dying and giving there all and you just give part time. The boys need a leader to represent them in the 01 car. What do you think would happen if they gave part time. You owe them more then part time. The give there all and you give half. Not worth the trade if you ask me. Herb Krebs

I am 75 years old and a relatively new fan of NASCAR and Mark Martin. A few years ago, my son-in-law told me that younger drivers were calling you an old man at 42. I was incensed - so I became a fan. Realize now that "old man" was a term of affection and respect. You are a great driver, a wonderful man in every respect. Would have loved to see you win the Cup and Daytona. You never complain or blame except for blaming yourself. But me - as far as I am concerned, you got robbed at Daytona. Keep racing as long as you can and as long as you wish. Maybe someday you'll be in my area and I will get to meet you. By the way, I was looking at some early pictures of you. What a shock of hair and it looked curly to boot. I like you just the way you are at whatever age you are. Richard

Congratulations on doing it the way you wanted. I have heard DW remark more than once about how jealous he was. I have only been watching you since the Valvoline Cummins T-Bird days when I found out my secretary up here in MN was related. That plus using Valvoline and having worked for Cummins peaked my interest. What I thought would be a break from the Vikes turned out to be finding a man I respect so much. I'm 55 now and have the money to buy collectables. For my 55th my friends bought me a Red Chromed Folgers car with autograph. I have a Strat, Tele and 30 year old Martin guitar that I would part with first. I only wish I could think of an accolade that you haven't heard so many times before. Before 2008 is over, I WILL be driving to Batesville for my family's 5th consecutive new Ford. I am going to tell people that I paid 25 grand for the Mark Martin Ford Lincoln Mercury license plate frame. The car was just a bonus. Save a Black Ranger for me. If they're still making them.

If Mark had raced every race this season, what place in the points would he currently be? figure the avg. finish of the races he did not participate in as 22nd place. If anyone can figure that out, e-mail me at jusitngagnon2002@yahoo.com . I believe Mark is one of the only drivers who has been getting better as the years progressed. I really was hoping he would take on the full schedule, but I can also appreciate him being a man of his word and helping the new driver. Go Mark Go!!!!!

I read Pete Pistone's article today. It was about Mark and the Chase. Talk about making an issue before it happens. He's talking about Mark not wanting to be in the Chase. Since at the present time he would qualify. He's talking about the "spot" NASCAR would be in if he qualified but declined to run. How they would have to tweak the rules agian. First of Pete, there are a lot of races yet to go and Mark will not be in all of them. So the odds of him being in position at seasons end are slim. Second of all, Mark would not shaft a full time driver knowing he isn't running all the Chase races (Talledga for sure).Plus just like almost any other competition, the next person would advance. I like Pete but he must have had a slow news week. I love Mark. Ford or Chevy, Roush or Ginn. I love the man and am PROUD to be a fan. It would be so cool to see him qualify and then "respectfully" bow out for a driver that ran all the races. Add another asterisk to his name in the record books. You know there would be a special seat at the Banquet for him. C,mon Pete. Don't be like the idiots that ask drivers if they think they can win the Cup before they even get out of their cars after Daytona. I hate that and it is easy to tell that the drivers do too.

Do you remember racing on the dirt tracks in Arkansas? How about racing a guy by the name of Nobel Warren? Well he is my uncle! I remember going to a few races when you were just a teen. Would love to see you race again. I think you are the most talented driver out there, not to mention the mellowist. And I hate to see you slowly backing out of racing. You still have much to offer to racing, drivers, and fans. Hope you stick with it a few more years and win that championship.

This is something I have never don't before and I realize how busy Mr. Martin is, but my father, Leonard Martin, has always been a fan and very proud of Mark Martin's accomplisthments. Anyway my father recently was hospitalized for three weeks in the hospital and then two weeks for rehab -- my question is would Mark Martin be able to forward a photo, note, etc to me so I could present it to my dad on Father's Day. I'm certain you receive hundreds of 'crazy' request but as you can imagine when someone is 83 years old it hard to give them a gift (they already have everything). If you are unable to fulfil this request I truly do understand but it would be very appreciated. We will continue to cheer Mark on and look forward in the future to watch Matt have he continues his career in racing. Race Fan, Nancy L. Matthews Have a blessed day!

I have been a Mark Martin fan for many years , and I am happy to see him finally be racing well on a weekly basis ,even if it is an abbreviated schedule , but thats what he wants to do and thats fine by me and I"m sure all his other loyal fans would agree . He worked out the deal with Ginn Racing so he could spend more time with his family , what father and husband wouldn"t do that ,I for one applaud him . On the other hand it would be a different leader board in the points right now if he had run all of the races so far , but one can only dream , go get"em Mark ,run well and be happy .

This is just a note to Ron that posted earlier. If you have followed Mark for anytime at all you would know that he has always spoken VERY HIGHLY of Jack Roush. He was on trackside on speed earlier this year and did indeed speak of his relationship with Jack and stated it was now and will always be just as it was. Let's face it, when you leave a team you sure don't want to tell the world the last team you were at was better than what you have, what a dig that would be to your present team. Mark is has always been a first class guy, never one to complain, even when anyone else would have raised the roof when they didn't throw the caution in Daytona. So please if your going to bash the man please totally follow his actions all of them not just part of them.

I have been a NASCAR fan for a long time, and watched you all the time you were with Roush Racing. It bothers me to know end when you talk on TV about the U.S,Army team is the best team that you have ever been with, and that the cars are the best you have ever drove. I have know doubt that you would have done very well in NASCAR regardless of who you drove for, but I have to thank that you might not be where you are at today had it not been for Jack Roush. I do not know for sure but it seems to me that Jack Roush helped you a great deal, and for you to know say that the Army team is the best you have ever been with is a slap in the face to Jack Roush. I may be wrong but Jack Roush seams like a class act, and does not regret anything he has done for you, and I have never heard you say a word about him sence you left, and to me that shows me that you are a person of very little character.

I have followed Mark Martin for a while. I think he is the best all around driver in NASCAR. He is a role model on and off the track. I am in the Army infantry and I found out that he would drive the Army car this year while I was deployed. I can't tell how glad I am that he is in the Army car. I will fly the new colors on my car with pride.

I'm a relatively new NASCAR fan who has noticed that Mark Martin is respected and revered by everyone from the drivers to the fans to the entire NASCAR family. How great that Mark can see his legacy in his own lifetime. Regardless of who your personal favorite driver might be - you're glad to see Mark do well. He's a true gentleman and a fine model for any sport.

May 20, 2007

Boy I was hoping Mark could have gotten by Jimmie Johnson on those final laps of the NEXTEL All-Star Challenge. Then he would have had a chance to reverse the roles of the Daytona 500 at the start of this year.

But I can pretty much guarantee one thing, that if Mark would have closed on Kevin and it looked like he was going to go by him, NASCAR would have thrown a "caution for debris" and prevent Mark from winning and forcing a restart with the hopes that Kevin could hold Mark off and win. No doubt in my mind at all.

My wife, Dolores, and I visited Batesville over Easter weekend this year to attend Mark's open house on the road home. Had a wonderful time meeting Mark and his autographing our 2006 Mustang that we had purchased from Mark Martin Ford - Mercury in August 2006. Although it was bitterly cold that weekend, we had a wonderfull time re-visiting the dealership & museum. Thank you, Mark, for signing all the hats, jackets, flags and most of all, signing the MUSTANG. Mark we hated to see you leave Ford but you will always be #1 in our estimation. Thank You.

Mark
I have followed you for 10 years, have respected you for the person that you were, but this year, I hate to say it, but I'm ashamed for you.
To listen to your comments about the Army Car, your comments about the Hendrick Car this past weekend, its like all of a sudden you have driven junk for 19 years and now you have good equipment.
I think that, in my own personal opinion, you have become an ingrate, if thats the right word. Mr Roush gave you a start, provided you with GOOD equipment and paid you exceedingly well over the years, but to sit and listen to you spout the way you are now about Ginn racing, and Hendricks,....this is NOT the Mark Martin That I had so much respect for...friendship and loyalty are fleeting moments I guess

Would like to see which races Mark Martin will be running in this year.

Seems like I answer this question every week. From the home page, click on Stats 2007. It will show all the races Mark has competed in so far this year as well as all of his upcoming races. Or just click here.

First off, just have to say that our family loves Mark. You are a great role model for the kids. You teach them great sportsmanship. now.... I have said for years that if Mark were driving a chevy he would have many championships already. While I wish that he would go ahead and race the rest of the season as a contender for the championship, I respect the choices has made. I wish Mark all the happiness he deserves and hope that he is truly enjoying all that he is doing. With that said, Good Luck to you and your family and God Bless.

Mark Martin is the Man. I have been a fan since 1992 when I started watching NASCAR racing. I picked him as a driver because of his conduct on the track. Other drivers punt and say it is okay and then whine when they get punted. Mark neither punts or whines and he still has more wins than a lot of the "champions". He is the People's Champion! Go Mark!! i have over 1500 martin things and iam only 26 even god is a martin fan go 01 01 01

Mark,
My 5 year old grandson Ryan will be 6 on Thursday, April 26. He fell in love with you when he was 3 years old. Every weekend he waits for Mark Martin to race. Recentlt we were in Florida and took him to Daytona race track tour. For about 1/2 hour before we got there he was very quiet in the back seat. When we got there he showed me his pic of you and your car he drew and colored. He then gave to a tour guide at the track his pic to give to you. Any way to get a e-mail or pic of you for his birthday?

Hey Mark,
Just want to start off by saying congratulations on a great start this season. I have been a loyal fan of yours back when you where driving the Folger's car. My dad has been a fan way before that. My dad is a good judge of character. I have been a Ford man all my life and it really hurt me seeing you driving a Chevy. But I got over it real quick because I'm a BIGGER Mark Martin Fan. I have always had three HEROS in my life 1st is my Dad, 2nd is John Wayne, and my 3rd is you... Mark Martin. It's because of the way you handle yourself on and off the track. When you know when you have been robbied from a race like Daytona 500 that you should have won or when you have been caught up in a wrecked due to an inexperience driver back in 06 and you never bad mouth anyone. I like your class act and your sportsmanship. My 10yr old daughter and I were going to make the trip up to Arkansas to come and see you back on the 6th of April but, my son blew his enigine in his 67 Mustang and we were having to change it out that weekend instead. Needless to say, my daughter is still mad at him because we could not go. That's ok.... there is always another day. Keep up the GREAT driving and attitude. I'll be waiting for the day to see your son Matt driving in the Nextel Cup Series. And you can bet that I will be in his corner supporting him.

Mark,
When I found out that you were leaving the 6 car and Roush Racing I was in disbelief... It just seemed that Mark Martin and Jack Roush were a team for the long haul and till the end... I admire your drive and resolve, to find a new chapter in the book of racing and open it up. You are diving in head first to a team that respects you much more than any other in your career and you are getting your due credit now. You have made a huge impact on Ginn Racing and to all the drivers on the team, you can only rub off on them in a positive way. I have been a devoted crazy over the top fan who collects every car you have and every Jacket, T Shirt and Hat I can get. You seem so young again in the ARMY car and the 01 fits you great, you should be the First place driver. To see you running 10th when you have spotted the field 2 races is unreal. I love to see you in Busch Cars, Cup Cars, and mostly in Trucks. You have written the record books when you look at last year in the Scotts Truck. I JUST WANT TO THANK YOU FOR THE MEMORIES AND PROVIDING SOMETHING THAT YOU MAY NOT UNDERSTAND,,, and that is GIVING ALL OF US DEVOTED FANS EVERY OUNCE OF ENERGY YOU HAVE AND ALLOWING US THE GREAT GIFT OF LOOKING FORWARD TO RACE DAY AND ROUTING FOR THE 6 CAR OR THE 60 OR THE 9 OR THE 06 OR THE 01. You are a class act and one of the most respected drivers in Nascars history period. KEEP UP THE WILL TO RACE AS LONG AS YOU WANT, US FANS WILL ALWAYS FOLLOW YOU IN ANY SERIES. Congrats on the almost win in Daytona, it was an awesome finish, Go get them at Kansas and at Lowes. Please post your second half schedule so I can see if you will be at NHIS this year in Cup or Truck. GO GET EM!! THANKS FROM YOUR #1 FAN IN NH, Jim Mihal Jr

I personally don't care what kind of car or truck you drive!! I am glad to see you having fun. I listen to your in car Audio every week on my computer and it sounds to me that you are enjoying yourself a lot more these days. I've gone to at least two races a year for the last 5 years and I still don't have your autograph, how would a person go about getting it? Do you do any hospitality appearances? If so, which races? I look forward to watching you race in the future regardless of what it is. Keep doing what you're doing

Drove almost 3000 miles round trip to attend Mark's "The Road Home" shindig in Batesville last weekend. Mark sure throws a great party. All the autographs you could ask for from Mark & Smoke. Mark autographed the Mustang we bought from his dealership last August on our way to Bristol. It's kind of hard to see Mark in the 01 Chevy after all these years in the 6 but I am starting to get used to it. Just want to see Mark win and/or do well. Have been following Mark's career since the mid 80's.

I have an extensive collection of Mark collectibles dating from the Folgers & Strohs Light days. We also have a commemorative brick at the dealership. This late 60's couple will continue to support Mark as long as he is in a racecar.
GO MARK!!!

Silverton, Oregon - USA - Sunday, April 15, 2007 at 20:33:20 (EDT)

This year I have become interested in following the NASCAR series on the FOX television network. I think Mr. Martin is the finest competitor in the series. My father Everett Hatch was a race car owner and driver in the 50's and 60's and I had the pleasure of working by his side in his engine shop in the 80's and 90's. He was a NW SCCA region member racing in A sedan with a '68 Camaro at the end of his career. He used his success in racing to launch a very successful engine building business. I just wanted to drop a note of encouragement to Mark and the US Army team. I enjoy watching the wisdom and skill in action that comes only with integrity and experience. It reminds me of my father's great skill and wisdom in being a very respected engine builder in this part of the country. Blessings and a big GO! GO! GO! to your team.

Just want to know if Mark still holds the track record at the Grundy County Speedway in Morris, Illinois.
Thanks

The Grundy County Speedway Fairgrounds was originally located at Mazon, Illinois and was built at the turn of the century. The original track was a ½ mile, racing the old A.A.A. sanctioning body. For years, the greatest race car drivers in the United States, participated at the Grundy County Fair. Such drivers as, Wilber Shaw, Mauri Rose, and the late Tony Bettenhausen.

In 1941, the Midget Race Car became the popular. So the 1/2 mile track was torn up and a 1/4 mile asphalt high-banked track was built. This track was known all over the country as the Mazon Speed Bowl. In 1970, the Grundy County Fair Board was faced with a situation where the fairgrounds were obsolete and there was no adjacent land available for expansion.

That was when the fairgrounds was moved to Morris, Illinois. The new fairgrounds opened in May of 1971 with Stock Car Racing and has continued until the present time. The track is a 1/3 mile with a asphalt surface.

The racing surface is 60 feet wide with 22 degrees banking in the turns and 12 degrees on the straights. With speeds in excess of 80 MPH. Midget Driver, David Gough holds the track record of 14.427. The track is surrounded by 144 1500-watt Quartz lights for a total of over 216,000 watts of lighting. The grandstands are made of all steel construction with aluminum seats and wooden steps with a capacity of over 4000.

What I love about Mark, and what has made me a lifetime fan, is his class and sportsmanship. I was a casual fan of racing in general for a while, but in the early 90's I started following my fellow Arkansasan as my interest in NASCAR grew (and eventually became an obsession...)I found a man, a driver, who epitomized what we should all be about: the golden rule. I have a very strong memory of a fall race in Dover which Ricky Rudd won, and he praised Mark over and over for racing him cleanly. Too often these days people expect the opposite, to win at any cost. Mark refuses to do that, and would rather win fair and square, or come in second, than "take" a win away. I admire, respect, and try to live to that ideal. Mark, you are a role model, not only because you race cleanly, but I know you race as hard as anyone ever has. The respect you have from you peers, both as a driver and a person, is unequaled. I wish there were more like you in every walk of life.

I'm your fan for life. Enjoy yourself, and know you have the respect of so many.

I'm not sure if you read these blogs but this seems like a great place to express my thanks to you for all the years you have opened up your life to us race fans. I started pulling for ya back in 89 when you and Dale were running for the championship. It's a shame how that year ended, but you took it like a man, and THAT is what impressed me. Remember the days you lived in Jamestown? Roush's shop in Liberty? Sure seems like an eternity ago. I lived in High Point, went to alot of races, and everywhere I went I have been honored to wear your colors. Never once have I been embarrassed by pulling for you....well maybe the time you pulled into pit road on the white flag lap under caution at Bristol:)lol Thank you Mark for being who you are, one of the best drivers in Nascar history, and by far one of the best people in racing.

Texas Motor Speedway is going to be a very hard comeback in the race for the points. Regan Smith did what he was suppose to do, finish both Bistol and Martinsville. It cost the Army 01 team 14 positions. I will be watching April 15th very closely and wishing for all the BEST for a great finish at Texas. I've been a Mark Martin fan since 1994. April 29th, I'll be at Talladega. It will be my 3rd race. I was there in the fall 2006. It was GREAT to see my Marky Mark win the first Truck Race at the newly repaved track at Talladega. GO, MARKY, GO!!!! It brought me to tears of joy! 8th in the UAW-Ford 500 was great also! It was at Talladega that I decided to be a Jimmy Johnson fan when you retire(and it was before your announcement of intentions and both races). Mark & Jimmy are both Class Acts in my book. I was in Homestead in 2005(my 1st race). What a finish with #16 Biffle(my other half's favorite!)...neck and neck, it was awesome. I'm hoping in the Aaron's 499 and the UAW-Ford 500, that Regan will pass more and bring home at least top 10 finishes for both the Spring and the Fall at Talladega. All the Best to the Army 01 Team. Marky will see ya soon April 14th Busch Race at Texas in the #06 for Roush on Saturday. Have a nice Easter Holiday with your family and TAKE CARE.
With Warm Thoughts & LOVE

Mark...all of us are thanking you for serving as such a great role model. You truly are a rare breed and we will all miss you being full time (but are glad that you have family time now). This '07 performance has really been something! Seems that Roush was more of an inhibiter than anything else. Most of us Martin fans appreciate you for WHO you are as a person. it's a tremendous bonus to have someone as genuine carry along a talent of wheeling 800 horsepower around an oval for 20+ years SUCCESSFULLY. Thanks for everything.

I noticed Mark's 2007 stat page and you have some races shown in yellow. Is he not racing in those races? I might be out near Sonoma the same weekend as the race. I can't decide if I want to go to the race or not. If he was racing that weekend it would make my decision easier. Your website is the only place I have found so far that shows part of his schedule. Keep up the good work, thanks.
Eric

That is correct, Eric, the races listed in yellow are the races Mark has said he will not compete in. I will try to make that a little clearer by showing in the status box "Did Not Compete"or "Will Not Compete"

I do not know if these blogs ever get read, but I would like you to know that I have followed your racing career since 1980. I have lived in Northern California for quite sometime and have sisters and brothers in the Phoenix area so my two tracks that I visited frequently are Sears Point (Infineon) and Phoenix International Raceway. When the track at Las Vegas opened I was there for three years in a row. However, I have not been lucky enough to meet you in person and I really have that dream. I have missed you a couple of times out here at Infineon years ago. I have always had to work the days you were signing autographs before the races at various locations in the area you were racing.

To be honest now, I do not frequent the tracks right now, due to the fact that my father used to be my racing partner and since he passed away unexpectedly in 2001, I have not gone back to PIR or anywhere. I will again someday, but not right now.

I enjoyed the emails from the Rouch Racing site and now I will follow you on your new website. Good luck with Ginn Racing and the 01 Army car. I am sorry to see you race part time but I am proud of your accomplishments. What an awesome job this year so far! Besides, I see Matt is going to keep your career alive. He is doing well.

So long for now,

I remember the first time I saw, or even heard of the kid Mark Martin. It was at a track called Queen City Speedway. I was there to cheer on a local driver named Rodney Combs. It was an ASA race and Mark was out of Ark. He was only 16. He didn't win the race but he won a race fan for life !!! I don't think Mark Martin will regreat retiring. He has been a racing idol and will be always. Life is too short Mark, enjoy your family as much as you can. Time stops for no one. Mark is the best there ever was. I think we can all agree on that.

I had the pleasure of visiting his museum Monday as I am fortunate enough to live close to it. I had such a great time reading his racing journals and seeing old photos (back to '74). I almost feel like I know him now. If you ever have the chance to visit do so. You won't be disappointed.

I WILL be there next weekend in hopes of meeting him.

You're a great driver and I am honored to watch you race. I remember I talked with your granddaugher Allison. I lost contact with her. I just want to say that I chatted with you before on MySpace. I want to say that you are a great driver and even though you didn't win at Daytona, Kevin may have beaten you but you gave a good fight. You almost beat him. You did great but you just didn't have it at the end. Overall you did a great job.

March 27, 2007

Within the next couple of days, I will be implementing a new look to the home page and subsequent update pages of this site. The home page was originally written back in 1999 and no longer works for the new wide screen monitors with huge screen resolutions. It was in need of an update anyway and my purchase of a widescreen laptop just preciptated the change.

I also like the colors of the site to represent Mark's racing colors and everything worked well with Valvoline, blue and white, Viagra, silver and blue, and AAA, somewhat blue and white. But now the Ginn colors are gold and black and I want to carry that through. I have made extensive use of CSS as well as XHTML on the new design so if Mark changes colors in the future it will be easy to make a change for the new colors.

There are always some minor glitches to be expected on a design change, so bear with me as I get the new look up and running. I won't do everything all at once, but will get it all in place in time.

You're not wrong Ronnie. Getting away from Roush earlier might have brought a championship. Still, remembering who Mark is and the loyality he brought pretty much answers that. A tough little Arkie I'd be proud to call a friend but don't know him. Would like to see a championship in his future but it seems bleak. Bet he'd be good at the LeMans series. LeMans too. Lots of older guys with smart heads doing that and doing well.

Nice site. I really miss the south. My whole family is still there. My work has brought me up to Washington, but it will never be home. Good luck! You will be missed on the track full time. Have a blast helping Matt get started, I'm sure it means alot to him.

I saw you race at Dover in 1986 driving 02 and I liked your style of racing. Then in 1988 I saw you racing the 6 car for Jack Roush. I think it was the Stroh's Light Ford back than and I have seen every race you've been in since IROC, Busch too. I was sad the day you were retiring but you stuck around another year. Then, this year it set in at Bristol, that you are cutting back. I have only one regret, that you didn't get out of Roush sooner. To see you without a Cup championship is a shame, what with all that you have done for racing. I came real close to meeting you in 1997 at Loudon in the VIP tent but it didn't workout. Good luck with your plans Mark and can't wait to cheer for Matt in the Busch and Cup races. From what I have seen, the nut didn't fall too far from the tree.
Yours in racing Ronnie

My girl friend, Judy, who lives at **** ********** in Parsons, Kansas ***** is the ultimate Mark Martin Fan. About two years ago when Mark was in Batesville we drove down to see him. Unfortunately I was recovering from injuries received in an automobile accident, including several broken ribs and a fractured vertebrae in my back.

I was overcome with pain after the drive so because of my problems Judy was unable to meet Mark that day. She felt obligated to leave before meeting Mr. Martin because of my problems. At any rate I just wanted you to know there is an avid Mark Martin "Fan-atic" in nearby Kansas. I in fact never had much interest in Nascar until I met Judy. Now I can't get enough of it and of course I always root for Mark. We are both very sorry to see that Mark in cutting back on his driving but we both wish you the very best of luck in all that you do.
Larry Hastings

I had Judy's address edited. It's probably not a good idea to identify someone's address so completely. You never know who is lurking out there.

I love Mark Martin. I'm 28 years old and I've been watching NASCAR since 1996. After I watched the first three races I knew that he was my guy, not only because he normally finished in the top 5 or 10 dagon near every race but he's just such a stand guy and role model. Today is Bristol and it just don't seem the same without him out there. I like Kenseth and Jeff Burton, but Mark is my man. I'll miss him in the chase for the cup this year. It just won't be the same without him

Here I am getting ready to watch the annual demolition derby that is called The Food City 500 at Bristol. I understand why Mark doesn't like to run the short tracks at Bristol, Martinsville and Richmond. Just look at yesterday's Sharpie Mini 300. What a disaster. 300 laps, 100+ laps of caution plus a red flag!!

I have never been a fan myself of the short tracks for the Busch and Cup series. Too many cars on too small a track with some drivers that don't have the patience to run on those type tracks. Give me the good old cookie-cutter 1 1/2 mile and bigger tracks.

The only hope for today's race is that the teams don't have a bunch of COT's in the garage and the drivers will be instructed to be a little more careful of the cars.

Mark, have a grilled hot dog for me and enjoy the race from the comfort of your own home.

Great job on the website- thanks!

I have been a Mark Martin fan for many years. Like everyone else, I respect his decision to run part time , but sure would like to see what would happen if he ran the full schedule. I think Ginn racing has given him a lot more than he got from Rousch, the last few years.

Hello,
I have been a Mark Martin fan for a long time now and I wanted to complement you on your fabulous website. If I miss a race or if I just want to know any updates on Mark - your site is the first place I come to.

Thanks for all your hard work.

Sincerely,

Angela

(Webmaster's Note:)
Thank you, Angela, for the kind words. This Mark Martin website is a labor of love for me and I enjoy working on it.

I have recently discovered, with a purchase of a new wide screen laptop, that many of the pages on this site, including the home page, don't render very well and look terrible on wide screens with a locked in screen resolution size. I am currently in the process of redesigning some of the pages so they will work on all screen sizes regardless of the resolution settings.

Two things.

Before we get too gooey about Mark, I'm sick of him year after year being so danged nice to his crew in his comments. Maybe it was a Roush thing. It wasn't an ASA thing!! Sounds silly maybe, but listening to Mark pander beyond the pale just grits me. Know they all do it but hoping, just hoping for that day when Mark again stands on top of a car in the winning circle and says "I DID IT!!" Darlington should be good.

R. Fetty <brenfet@aol.com>

I have been a Mark Martin fan since he raced in the ASA series and would come to my hometown and race every year.

I feel it goes without being said he is the best driver out there, the five IROC champions make that case. I am happy to see him driving a part-time schedule which seems to make him real happy and excited to race again. However, I would have like to have seem him race until he was no longer in the points lead. My reasoning is I believe nobody on the Army team has ever won a race or a championship for that matter and I hate to see those guys lose there chance at a championship by not starting.

That being said, Mark is the greatest and I do admire him for staying with his schedule.

Good luck to the whole team the rest of the season.

I want to say that I love Mark Martin and always have since I can remember! We need more drivers like him in NASCAR..I love how he always thanks his fans and his crews even after he gets wrecked out or doesn't have the best finish. I wish he would have decided to race the full season with him doing so well so far!!! It's my dream to meet him one day but I'm not lucky like that!!! Love you Mark..you're awesome!

Why won't NASCAR stay out of the race endings. Let the drivers race and the best will win. Stop with the mystery trash caution. Show what you find. This is really hurting the sport. If the big name driver is not doing well, just stop interfering...let the racers race . The champion, Jimmie Johnson, if he wasn't running so well NASCAR would of cost him more races then they already have.. TV viewers want to watch a true race, not a fixed race. I have been watching 20 plus years. Don't sell out to the big TV money and let the racers race!!!!!!!

Me It is going to seem strange this weekend watching the Bristol race with no Mark in it. It's like watching a race after Mark is out after an early crash or engine or mechanical failure. It's just no fun to watch it. I will probably watch the race with my laptop on and be doing other things while the race is ongoing and just glance at the race from time to time.

There won't be any detailed race statistics or write up for any of the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup races that Mark is not running. That will feel strange too, updating my race statistics with asterisks this week.

I am very impressed with Mark's outlook on life. He is by far one of the greatest drivers in Nascar History. His strong Christain Faith is shown in his attatude and on his face through good times and bad. Keep up the good work Mark and continue to help others see Jesus Christ through you.

Mark's performance this year leading the points brought back distant memories of the glory days of '98 - 7 wins! - when I believe it was the first year a driver scored more than 5000 pts in a season - just so happens the 24 also had a record year to come out on top. I have not missed watching Mark race Cup, Busch, or Truck over the past 10 yrs and we will all miss him this weekend at Bristol.

I praise Mark for sticking to his guns and not "giving in" to the media or anyone else as he seems so much happier this year not chasing that elusive points title and he can just go racing for wins! Go Mark to the rest of the year and go Regan Smith at Bristol.

Great job Mark. There is no better thing then to see you go out on top of your game as the points leader!

(Webmaster's Note:)
I am working on refining the look of this weblog page. If you are a user of Netscape, Firefox or Opera, you are not seeing the white background of the entry section of this blog page and consequently it is a little hard to read. Internet Explorer 6.0 and 7.0 view this page just fine. I am working on that problem right now. Such is the difficulty in trying to please all the different styles of browsers out there. Wouldn't it be nice if everybody impletmented HTML and CSS in the same way.

I would also like to redesign the home page too. I did that page back in 1999 when I was first learing HTML and CSS. It doesn't render correctly in all browsers and screen displays either. However, 90% of the readers of this web site are using IE 5.0 or higher, at least according to the site statistics I get from my ISP. So I will write for the majority but continue to work to make this site render correctly in the other browsers.

I would also like to change the color scheme of the home page too. Those colors worked well when Mark was driving the Valvoline Ford and the Viagra Ford, various shades of blue, white and silver. But the black and gold of the 01 US Army Chevy don't work so well. It will be a big job to redesign the home page, possibly with a neutral color. But I may try to tackle it. I kinda like the black and gold look of the blog page.

First, I'd like to thank you for your years of effort. The site is tops.

Those who speculated that Mark would run next Sunday forgot that he is a man of his word. That simple, and often racing rare, truthfulness garnered him the respect from drivers and fans he deserves. I'll miss him.

Wish I could be in Batesville for Easter.

PS: If this entry results in a ton of spam it will be my last.

March 20, 2007 - Welcome to my Mark Martin Blog

Today I am introducing my Mark Martin Blog. This is where I will give my thoughts and ideas about Mark, NASCAR and anything else I want to write about. You, too, will have a chance to express your ideas and feelings about the same or comment on any other entry here in the blog.

In order to use this blog you will have to enter your comments here I will review all entries for spam, obscenities and such each day and let the non-spam entries show up here.

I will also post other items of interest to this site such days I will be out of town, on vacation etc. Also any miscelleanous stuff I think needs to be here. I am hoping folks will use this blog as they are using the guestbook now and that is to express their feelings about Mark, NASCAR etc. It may turn out that this blog will replace the feedback form and the guestbook entirely. I will see how numbers work out.

Enjoy.
