Mark can be seen on numerous
commercials
for his sponsor, Viagra, and has become famous for the line, "Who did
you expect, Bob Dole?"
Last Sunday, during pre-race introductions at Charlotte, Mark bet
Dole -- Elizabeth Dole, that is. The wife of the former Kansas senator
is running for a Senate seat from North Carolina and spoke to the
large crowd at Lowe's Motor Speedway last week.
Despite being a leading spokesman for men's health, Mark admits
health issues have affected his winless Winston Cup season.
"I'm feeling good, but I had some problems," Mark said Saturday
morning. "I had some surgery earlier this year to take a screw out of
my knee that got put in in 1999 after my accident at Daytona. My knee
is a lot better. My back, I flared it up at Talladega the first
race and I've wrestled with that most of the summer. I just recently
have gotten beyond that and I've learned some things through
physical therapy that I've done this summer that I think is really
going to help me going down the road.
"Everything is good there and I feel good. I have a lot to be
thankful for and a lot to be grateful for, and all that's left out
there in front of me as far as the racing part is just a matter of
getting out there and getting the work figured out so that we've
got faster cars than most everybody else on the race track. If we do
that, we'll be up front every week."
