Mark finished the 1999 Winston Cup season with two wins (plus a victory in the Bud Shootout)
19 top-five finishes, 26 top-10 finishes, one pole position and more than $2.7 million in prize money. Mark's third-place finish in the final Winston Cup points standings marked the 11th consecutive year that he has finished in the top six in points.
Mark led 63 times during 1999 Winston Cup competition for a total of 716 laps. Add to the list of vital statistics a fractured left wrist, broken rib and fractured tibia plateau in his left knee (which required surgery), along with a back injury that required surgery on the Monday following the Atlanta race, and you have quite an even more impressive performance in 1999.
