Mark was the garage area's pick to win the O'Reilly 300 Busch Series race Mark at the Oreilly 300 in TX. at Texas Motor Speedway, but the veteran's fate was the worst of four Roush Racing Nextel Cup drivers in the event.

Greg Biffle was second in the No. 66 Duraflame Ford; Busch point leader Carl Edwards was fourth in the No. 60 Charter Ford and Matt Kenseth was seventh in the No. 17 Waste Management Ford.

Mark, who finished 32nd, led only one lap Saturday -- and that came during a cycle of green-flag pit stops.

Although Mark was in the top-10 for 176 of the 187 laps he completed, he was never a threat to pad his Busch record 47 career victories.

Mark was running in the top 10 when he headed to pit road to change a cut right front tire. He came out 20th but when the problem immediately recurred, Mark parked the No. 9 Pennzoil Ford.

"It wasn't a very good day -- we kind of just shot ourselves in the foot and we have nobody to blame but ourselves," crew chief Pat Tryson said after Mark had beaten a hasty retreat from the garage. "We actually were pretty good -- just a little too tight.

"We got it freed up there, but then we had something rubbing and it cut two tires down. We can't leave him out there and get him hurt, so (we stopped)."

Tryson wasn't specific about what caused the deflations, but he was obviously disgusted.

"It was some stuff that should have been kept away from the tire," Tryson said. "It just got loose and rubbed the tire, so it was not an acceptable day. Pretty disappointing, that's all."

Mark's misfortune was in sharp contrast to his teammates' particularly Biffle, who said Saturday was "the most fun I've had driving a race car all season."

Biffle led 32 laps in the car he drives for Brewco Motorsports and ended up . 304 seconds behind winner Kasey Kahne.

"We just ran out of time," Biffle said. "One more lap and we would have been able to get up there and race Kasey."
