| In the closing laps of the Daytona 500, Mark had made plans to team up with fellow Ford driver Dale Jarrett in a Robert Yates Racing entry. The plan was for the two to pull away from the pack then fight it out between themselves on the last lap for the win. But when it came time to go, nothing transpired between the two drivers. Both Mark and Jarrett made the move to go high, but at the last second Jarrett drove back down to protect his position and block Jeff Burton, who was charging to the front. That left Mark with no where to go but backward. |
