Pepsi 400
The pace car leads the way under the checkered flag as Dale Jarrett rolls to his 21st victory, putting him in a four-way tie for 23rd on the career victory list with Benny Parsons, Terry LaBonte and Jack Smith.
After breaking a bone in his left wrist, Mark Martin was not sure if he could finish the Pepsi 400. But despite driving in tremendous pain, Martin finished 17th.
"It hurt, it hurt a lot," he said. Mark broke his wrist when he cut a tire and crashed during his final practice session on July 2. He was forced to drop to the rear of the field at the start of the race and drive with a cast on his wrist.
He drafted his way toward the top 10 during the first 50 laps, but was in pain early. His crew gave him a pair of scissors to cut the cast off during the first caution period to help relieve the pain.
By lap 111, Mark told his crew he didn't know if he could finish the race. Mark finished with the cast still on his wrist, but was not happy with his performance.
"I didn't do a very good job," he said. "I feel really bad. We were running 13th with 10 laps to go and finished 17th. That's not how I want to race. I feel pretty bad about it."
