Roush Racing driver and
Daytona Beach, Fla., resident Mark
Martin has been selected as a nominee for the Jasper Pro
Driver of the Year award at the sixth annual Florida Sports
Awards to be held in Jacksonville, Fla., on Saturday, June
9, 2001.
In the 13 professional categories, a judging committee
comprised of members of the Florida Sports Writers and
Sportscasters Associations ranked eligible athletes on a
scale of one through three, with one being the top sports
performance. The three professional athletes with the highest
points total in each category make up the final nominees.
Jeff Gordon and Dale Earnhardt are also nominated in
Mark's category. Mark won the award in 2000.
"It is an honor to be nominated again this year,"
Mark said. "I was really surprised to win it last year
and to be nominated along with athletes like Alonzo Mourning
and Tiger Woods is pretty amazing. The Florida Sports
Awards is a great organization, and they do a lot to help
kids all over Florida."
Broadcast live throughout the state, the Jaspers honor the
top professional athletes, coaches and teams in the entire
state. Proceeds from the Florida Sports Awards benefit the
Otis F. Smith Foundation, a not-for-profit organization that
provides programs and services to underprivileged children
throughout North Florida.
